Technology Standard #2: TASC Core Teaching Standards

The Learner and Learning

Standard #1: Learner Development. The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

As I struggled to find a right tool to use for my classroom, I felt what it was like to be in the students’ position. Websites were given in the book but instructions on how to use that website was a great challenge. I’m not an expert yet but as least I understand what my students will go through concerning technology challenges. Perhaps, they might face more challenge than me. I understand that I don’t have all answers to their questions, but I can share my experience and try my best to work together so they can grow with new tech era without fear. An important thing I learned from this class was trial and error. In which I had to test out the different websites and how to navigate around using them, and the more I spent experimenting, the more I learned the usefulness of it. If I do choose to use a website for my class, it would be important for me to go through it with my students first, let them experiment with it, and give them positive feedback when they are either stuck or progressive through learning.

  1. Good points--sounds like you are developing some great empathy for your students as well as some great ideas and skills.

Also, this class is meant to be pretty open-ended since people come in with a wide range of teaching assignments and a wide range of interests. So I hope this hasn't been too frustrating for you!
