Response to tech standards #1

I chose to respond to Oregon Educational Technology Standards.

6.  Technology Operations and Concepts

Students utilize technology concepts and tools to learn.  Students:

1. Select, use, and troubleshoot tools efficiently.
2. Transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies.

I’m not sure how to successfully incorporate technology to my ESL students. Many students have smart-phones, but they use the phones for the entertainment purposes only. Some students do not have computers in their house. Our campus has many computer labs, but most of the students do not utilize it. Using computers for learning is not yet incorporated in the Saudi Arabian school curriculum. When my class starts this coming August, I plan to reserve the computer labs for my students. I will have an orientation for them to learn basic computer skills, and then assign small projects so that they can learn how to improve their computer skills. Some examples of assignments would be to type up their paragraphs and email it to me.
